2017 PhD & Master scholarships for Mexican Students
In February the Mexican Council for Science & Technology (CONACYT) opened its 2017 calls for applications. Mexican students have an opportunity to apply to funding to do their PhD or master studies abroad. The PhD call is published here, and prospective master students are recommended to apply to the different calls of "federal entities" as listed here.
2017 PhD deadlines
Students themselves are responsible to submit their application to CONACYT. The following general dates & deadlines for PhD applicants apply:
- Applications to be submitted as of 17 April 2017
- Application deadline 16 June 2017, 3 PM CST
- Publication of results: 28 July 2017
Start of scholarship: before March 2018.
IMPORTANT: CONACYT regional offices ("entidades federales") may open additional calls for applications with different deadlines throughout the year.
2017 Master applicants
CONACYT regional offices have published calls for prospective master students which include Health Sciences, i.e. the programs offered by the Graduate School of Medical Sciences of the University Medical Center Groningen/University of Groningen.
If you are a prospective master's student applying to one of the Graduate School's programs Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation or Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology, contact the programs' Coordination in order to learn how to obtain a Letter of Admission to submit with your CONACYT application. UMCG supervisors who are in touch with a Mexican prospective PhD student may request support from the Graduate School of Medical Sciences to facilitate the candidate's application to CONACYT funding. Successful candidates receive a 48-month subsistence scholarship from CONACYT. UMCG Principal Investigators additionally are eligible to receive the standard bench fees from the Graduate School of Medical Sciences.

Information UMCG PhD supervisors should submit to the Graduate School
In order to prepare the letter of acceptance for CONACYT grantees, UMCG Principal Investigators should provide the Graduate School with the following documentation/information:
CV of the candidate, including:
- Full name
- Place & Date of Birth
- Candidate e-mail
About the project:
- Total number of months of funding requested (max. 48 months)
- Start date PhD project (between September 2017 and March 2018)
- PhD project title
- Title(s) and name(s) supervisor(s) and their departmental affiliation
