Research Master Programs

Three Master programs in a wide range of research areas

In addition to the PhD programs available, the Graduate School of Medical Sciences also offers three selective admission Master programs that focus on the education and training of future researchers.

Another Research Master program focusing on the neurosciences is coordinated by the Faculty of Mathematics & Natural Sciences. A large share of the neurosciences research (undertaken by those on the so-called "n-track") takes place at the University Medical Center Groningen and future PhD students in this program may also benefit from the opportunities of our Abel Tasman Talent Program.

Our Master Programs have an excellent and far-reaching reputation and as a result attract the very best applicants from around the world. We take pride in creating an environment in which each of our students is able to prosper in their specific field of interest, with our goal being to mould true leaders in science, who think critically, independently, and creatively.

If accepted onto one of our programs, while applying the most up to date and modern techniques and having wide access to the hospital’s state-of-the-art facilities, you will also be supervised by internationally-renowned scientists. The programs are both highly intensive and highly interactive, each sharing our philosophy that it is essential to strengthen, complement and advance theoretical knowledge through a heavily practical and hands-on approach in order to further the student’s research skills.

Upon graduation you will be fully prepared to pursue a successful and fulfilling career in medical, biomedical or health sciences. Having had the opportunity to design your own PhD project as part of the Master program, you will also be well qualified to go on and attain a PhD position anywhere in the world. The very best students will receive offers to continue with their PhD at the UMCG. Regardless of whether or not you decide to continue to PhD level, the opportunities for our graduates are vast, with the skills you will have attained being sought after by any organisation conducting or dealing with research, in both the public and private sectors.
