Colombia: Colfuturo

Colombian prospective students are eligible to apply for funding for a master or PhD program at thee University of Groningen (UG). UG has an agreement with Colfuturo for the funding of a selected number of master programs as well as PhD studies. This includes the Research Masters Medical and Pharmaceutical Drug Innovation (MPDI) and Clinical and Psychosocial Epidemiology (CPE) and the PhD program of the Graduate School of Medical Sciences.


Students may apply to a scholarship-loan for postgraduate studies, details are available on the Colfuturo website.

Successful Colfuturo applicants who have been admitted at the Graduate School of Medical Sciences receive the following benefits upon their enrollment:

  • Students admitted to the master's program MPDI or CPE receive a scholarship at 50% of tuition
  • Students admitted to the PhD program receive a tuition waiver

Deadlines 2019

The 2019 deadline for application to Colfuturo is 28 February 2019. Consult the online call for applications for more information.

In order to apply you need to have secured (conditional) admission to one of our master or PhD programs. 

Master programs: how to apply?

In case of master applicants, consult the website of the program of your choice. Questions regarding admission to master programs may be directed to PhD applicants contact the Graduate School directly.

PhD programs: how to apply?

The most important prerequisite for PhD applicants is that you have identified a researcher (Principal Investigator) who has agreed to supervise you during your PhD studies - in general a 4 year trajectory.

If you need assistance in locating a supervisor, please send us your English-language CV and an outline of your research interests. 

Once you have identified a supervisor for your research project, they should contact the Graduate School to obtain a Letter of Acceptance in accordance with the instructions below.

For UMCG supervisors

In order to prepare the letter of acceptance for Colfuturo applicants, UMCG Principal Investigators should provide the Graduate School of Medical Sciences with the following supporting information and documents:

CV of the candidate, including:

  • Full name
  • Place & date of birth
  • E-mail address

About the project:

  • Total number of months of funding requested
  • Provisional start date PhD project
  • PhD project title
  • Title(s) and name(s) of supervisor(s) and their departmental affiliation(s)
